What’s On Guide – North Cornwall & Devon – May Half Term 2019

With the May School holidays fast approaching, we thought we would gather as many of the events in and around North Cornwall and Devon to help you plan your activities for the school holidays.  This year, there’s everything from funfairs to traction engines, dog shows to open gardens.  Have we missed out an event?  Let us know in the comments below – and have a great holiday!


Cinema – films throughout half-term:

A popular arts centre that has a mix of selected cinema releases, plays and live music.  Please note many of the films will only show once in the week.

Open Studios Cornwall 2018

Now in its 15th year, Open Studios Cornwall 2019 will see artists, craftsmen and designers opening their studios and workshops to the public. Grab a guide, create your very own art trail, follow the orange “O”s and explore the landscape as well as creative Cornwall. Bude & Stratton Folk Festival

Thurs evening 23rd May – Mon 27th May 2019
Founded in 2007 and held over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, with last year being proclaimed the greatest ever, we are looking forward to what this year has in store for us. Bude and Stratton Folk Festival is a friendly mix of folk events. It features music, song, dance, and storytelling. Family Fun Fair

Open Friday the 22nd May until Sunday the 31st of May, opening hours 11am to 9pm daily

Port Eliot Dog Festival

Kindred Spirits Festival
Waterloo Farm, North Petherwin, Launceston PL15 8LL
25th – 26th May 2019
Kindred Spirits Festival is a two-day music event located in North Petherwin near Launceston. Three stages, 25+ Live Bands and DJs, Music Workshops and Comedy. There are many shops and stalls, a Licensed bar, a variety of food vendors, and a holistic healing area. Kindred Spirits also hosts battle re-enactments and living history talks with The Warriors of Tintagel, and children’s area including arts and craft workshops, face painting, bouncy castles and much more still to be confirmed. Fleet Fest, Real Cornish Ale Festival and Family Fun Weekend

NGS Garden Open For Charity
Fairway, Chulmleigh, Devon, Ex18 7BL.

Fairway is a south-facing, sloping, wildlife garden of just under an acre. The garden was started by the present owners 12 years ago and comprises a maze of paths through meadow areas and young woodland borders. There is a medium size wildlife pond and in the centre of the garden the main lawn is bordered by a perennial and mixed herbaceous flower bed. The garden has over 200 interesting trees and shrubs.  Teas and Refreshments available

Launceston Steam & Vintage Rally
Fivelanes near Altarnun, PL15 7RR. 8 miles to the west of Launceston.

Launceston Steam & Vintage Rally is held every year over the bank holiday weekend at the end of May.  It is a fun day out with numerous attractions for the whole family that raises money for local charities and organisations. www.launcestonsteamrally.com

Craft Drop-in Sessions

10:00 am – 12:00 pm
We offer a drop-in session for children of primary school age. It is a session aimed specifically at children so it is not structured. For just £10, they can choose from a range of items and paint. No need to book, just drop in! Drop in sessions last between 20 and 45 minutes.  We give your children a brief introduction and then they can choose from a range of items and paint. £10 per child per item. Prideaux Place Open Gardensfor Children’s Hospice South West

In aid of Children’s Hospice South West (registered charity 1003314) Enjoy shady woodland walks and landscaped grounds in a stunning Cornish garden, overlooking an ancient deer park with lovely views of the Camel Estuary. The formal gardens dating back to Elizabethan times are in the process of being restored and re-planted.
