Autumn is a great time to explore Cornwall with your family, so here are 6 great reasons why you might want to consider spending your October half-term holiday with us at Tamar Valley Cottages.

1) Family Friendly

We offer the perfect family getaway to you and your loved ones.  We have over 2 acres of grounds, from orchards to lawns, matures trees and patios – that’s plenty of space to let off steam.  Your young ones can build dens or play hied and seek, or make the most of our play area, complete with 6 foot trampoline, goal posts, Wendy house and more.  We occupy a secluded spot well away from any main roads, so relax and let your children be children again.

2) Dog Friendly

It’s not just children that enjoy the space – all our cottages and grounds are dog-friendly too.  We know that your four-legged friend is part of your family, so we make it as easy as possible for you to bring them along.  Each cottage is equipped with a comprehensive guide to local dog-friendly attractions and eateries, and you will even find a few handmade treats in your luxury welcome pack.

3) Boutique Cottages

Our award-winning cottages are different from your average holiday accommodation;  Each room has been planned by an interior designer, with high quality furnishings and real art on the walls.  Kitchens are fitted to a very high standard, free WiFi is available in all rooms, and guest controlled central heating allows you to stay comfortable whatever the weather.  When you arrive, you will find fresh flowers throughout your cottage, and a luxury welcome pack full of local treats.  To read more about the little differences you will find, click here.

4) Autumn Treats

Cornwall is beautiful in every season, but autumn has to be one of the most stunning times of year to visit.  Our grounds are awash with beautiful golden browns, and the hedgerows are heavy with autumn fruit – take a punnet of blackberries just from a tour of our land.  Go for a walk on one of the local beaches, or head up onto the moors, and finish with a hearty pint or a cream tea at a pub with a log fire.  For nature lovers, read our insider guide and watch the spectacular murmurations – vast swooping flocks of starlings that cover the dusk skyline.

5) Local Attractions

Being  premium holiday destination, the local attractions always put on something special for the holidays.  Nearby, we have the excellent Tamar Otter Park, and the seaside resort of Bude.  There are numerous historic attractions such as Tintagel Castle and Lanhydrock, and family-friendly parks such as Trethorne and Camel Creek are not far away.  There’s even the world-class Eden Project a short trip down the A30 which has its own autumn extravaganzas (including an ice rink!)

6) Local Events

Most local attractions have something special going on, but there are always a few highlights.  Our cottages always have an up-to-date What’s On guide for the holidays, covering everything from local cinemas and theatres, to festivals and celebrations.  Venues such as The Eden Project and Dingles Fairground Heritage have fun Halloween-themed activities, while historic villages like Clovelly celebrate their Apple Day or their annual carnival.  If you’re lucky, there are  often some early firework displays.
