What’s On Guide – October Half-term 2016, North Cornwall & Devon

As usual, our region is cooking up some great events for 2016’s October half-term.  Whether you fancy some spooky fun, an early bonfire, or apple related shenanigans, there will be something up your street.  We will keep this page updated as more details and new events emerge.  If we have missed one that you know of, let us know in the comments below or on social media.


North Cornwall Book Festival, St Endellion campus, PL29 3TP
Friday 21st – Sunday 30th October 2016

A 3 day festival of literature, music and workshops, including talks from authors, exhibitions and stalls.


Halloweden, The Eden Project, PL24 2SG
Saturday 22nd – Sunday 30th October 2016

Celebrate Halloween at Eden: get involved in magical craft activities & dare to be scared & follow the trail around Eden and collect the things the Witch needs to cast her spell.

The Big Sheep Halloween Festival, The Big Sheep, EX39 5AP
Saturday 22nd – Sunday 30th October 2016

Halloween fun without the scary nightmares!  Pumpkin carving, storytelling, a weekday phantomime, fancy dress, haunted hose, ghost train and much more!

PumpkinFest, Lifton Farm Shop , PL16 0DE
Saturday 22nd – Monday 31st October 2016

Pumpkin carving, free daily magic shows and tractor rides, balloon modelling, face painting and fancy dress competitions, story telling, and a special themed menu.  Finishing on 31st October with a firework display.  In aid of BBC Children in Need.

Spine Tingles at Dingles, Dingles Fairground Heritage, PL16 0AT
Saturday 22nd  – Saturday 29th October 2016

Unicycling, juggling, stiltwalking, facepainting, and spooky Halloween fun for all the family!  Normal charges apply but free admission for children in Halloween costume if accompanied by a paying adult.

Pumpkin Festival & Craft Fair, Poundstock Church & Gildhouse, EX23 0AX
Saturday 22rd (10am -5pm) – Sunday 23rd (11am-4pm) October 2016

A fun little event featuring local crafts and foods, refreshments, and pumpkin prizes!  Award for heaviest pumpkin, best-carved pumpkin and creative use of a pumpkin (adult and child) – entries in by 11am on the Saturday.

Big Bikers BBQ, The Bishop’s School, Newquay, TR7 2SR
Sunday 23rd October 2016, 12pm – 3pm

A great afternoon in aid of the Cornwall Blood Bikes.  A range of superbikes on display, BBQ and refreshments, craft stalls, an inflatable assault course, zorbing and more.  Indoor options depending on weather.  Free entry!

Keeper of the Castle Keys, Tintagel Castle, PL34 0HE
Monday 24th October – 28th October 2016
11am – 4pm daily.

Castle custodian, Florence, offers a Victorian style story-telling journey suitable for the whole family.  A halloween costume competition everyday at 3pm with prizes to be won!

Apple Day, Clovelly
Friday October 28th

Bring a bag of apples, watch them being pressed, taste the juice!  Apples games, crafts, apple modelling, live music and much more!

Camelford Carnival, Camelford town centre.
Saturday 29th October 2016, procession starts at 7pm

A jolly traditional carnival taking place in Camelford town centre.  Floats and parades, live music, all the usual fun!

Bude FC Halloween Fundraiser, Bude FC, Broadclose Park EX23 8DR
Saturday 29th October, 2016 5:00pm to 11:00pm

A fundraiser for Bude FC itself so that they can improve the facilities and support our local football team and support the local food bank too.  Sure to be a good evening – details yet to be announced.

Fireworks & Bonfire Night, Rilla Mill (Nr Callington), PL17 7NT
Saturday 29th October, 2016 6:00pm

Everyone welcome.  An early traditional bonfire evening, complete with Guy competition (submit your entry before 6.30), barbecue, chips, hot drinks and cake.  A big display for a little village!  Bonfire 6.45pm – Display 7.30pm. ADULTS £4 CHILDREN £1


Cornish Oyster Eating Championships, The Racehorse Inn, North Hill ( PL15 7PG)

Halloween Spooktacular, Dingles Heritage Centre,  PL16 0AT
Saturday 29th October from 8pm to 1am at

As well as their weekday half-term entertainment, Dingles have organised a Halloween evening event.  Live music, burlesque and fire poi, aerial hoops, and the usual great vintage rides and games. Licensed Bar and hot food available.  Tickets in advance only.

Mad Hatters Tea Party, Cross House Hotel, Padstow, PL28 8BG
Sunday 30th October 2016, 2pm – 4pm

A fun costumed march around Padstow in aid of the RNLI, beginning and ending at Cross House Hotel where a Mad Tea party will be held.
