What’s On Guide – North Cornwall – Christmas & New Year 2019 – 2020

It’s Christmas!  As you can imagine, most tourist attractions (including National Trust properties) have events and celebrations lined up, but here are some extra events in and around North Cornwall for you to consider, in date order.  Have a wonderful time!

Mulled Wine & Mince Pie Train

Gather family and friends and visit the railway for one of the new evening trains to celebrate the festive season. Don’t miss out – festive lunchtime dining is already sold out, with just Mulled Wine & Mince Pie train tickets remaining.  Arrive at Bodmin General Station where the Christmas tree will set the scene, before boarding for mince pies and seasonal drinks. A charming way to spend a winter evening, as you travel along the line.

Elves and the Shoemaker – Play In A Day (8-12yrs)

Performing Arts (Workshop).  Get in the holiday mood and bring your elves along to give Santa time to do some secret shopping!  A sweet classic fairytale with its Christmas theme of gratefulness, kindness, fun and games to with this drama workshop for 8-12 years.  Children will create a play in a day which will end with a performance at 2.30pm.  £9.00.  To buy tickets, phone the Box Office on 01805 624624 or book online.

Santa by Steam
21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th December.

Bodmin General Station

When he’s not driving the sleigh with Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer, Father Christmas travels by steam train!  Take a journey with the railway elves to visit Santa’s grotto. Arrive at Bodmin General Station for mince pies, seasonal drinks and carols on the platform, before climbing aboard for an hour-long return journey on a beautiful steam hauled train. During the trip you’ll visit Santa, with plenty of time for a photo, and gifts for each child.

Christmas Day Swim, Bude

Crooklets Beach

This is a fund raising event for Bude Surf Life Saving Club.  The Mike Moyle Christmas Day no wetsuit swim commences at 11am on Crooklets Beach, Bude and attracts around 500 participants who dash into the sea whatever the weather.  Many more people gather to watch the madness!
Everyone is welcome to join in; children aged under 14 must be accompanied in the water by an adult and Bude SLSC provide qualified lifeguard safety cover, mulled wine, hot chocolate and sausage rolls for free.   For safety reasons ALL participants must fill in a registration form available from the Bude SLSC website. 

Clovelly Boxing Day Barbeque
Thursday 26th December

Enjoy a lunch barbecue with live music on the quay with FREE entrance into the village all day.  So come and park at the Visitor Centre.  Take a walk along the estate and/or explore the village in the morning.  Then come on down through the festively lit village to the Red lion on the quay.  Cooking starts at midday and the live music runs from 1pm to 3pm.  The Red Lion serves some great mulled cider.  If you are more of a chocolate person, then try one of the delicious, hot chocolate drinks.

Clovelly NYE Fancy Dress Party

An amazing New Year Party available for both resident and non- residence guests.  Pirates of Clovelly were real people and we like to throw a party for them once a year. So come, join in and become a pirate for the night!   A pirates table – full of grub for you to feast on.  Gunpowder on the Quay at Midnight.  Disco that might just transport you back to a time when you were a wild Pirate!  Free entrance to the village.
